Following the model of the well known Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson (among others) song
book albums reuniting the work of great American song composers, Dave Brubeck prepared
ANGEL EYES (Columbia CL2348/CS9148), which was dedicated to the music of Matt Dennis.
Born in Seattle, Washington, on February 11, 1914 (he died on June 21, 2002), Dennis' mother was
a violinist and his father a singer. The family was in vaudeville, so he was exposed to music at an
early age. In 1933 he joined Horace Heidt's orchestra as a vocalist and pianist.
