Cowboys From Hell była przełomowym albumem dla Amerykanów. To na niej Phil Anselmo i ś.p."Dimebag" Darrell Abbott odwrócili się od łagodnego rocka i zwrócili się ku bardziej extremalnej odmianie metalu. Ten album stał się swego rodzaju elementarzem dla wszystkich kapel grających hard-cora, to na nim będą się wzorowali w późniejszych latach Biohazard oraz kapele nu-metalowe. Panowie tym albumem weszli do pierwszej ligi światowego metalu i pozostali w niej aż do tragicznej śmierci "Dimebaga".
