" Editor's info: The complete classic album Steamin', showcasing the Miles Davis Quintet with John Coltrane & Red Garland in top form. In addition, the bonus album, The New Miles Davis Quintet, recorded by the same group the previous year. Includes 12-page booklet with complete original liner notes and Down Beat reviews Workin' is the last in a series of four albums featuring the classic: Davis (trumpet), (tenor sax), (piano), and (drums). Like its predecessors and, Steamin' is the product of not one -as many would claim -but two massively productive recording sessions in May and October of 1956, respectively. The album contains beautiful versions of standards, plus readings of jazz tunes like Thelonious Monk's ""Well You Needn't"" and Dizzy Gillespie's ""Salt Peanuts"", on which Philly Joe Jones mimics Dizzy's original vocal parts on the drums. As a bonus, we have included another complete album by the same formation, The New Miles Davis Quintet, also known simply as Miles. Although the group had previously recorded a few tracks for Columbia, this was the first album by the classic quintet to be released. Coltrane's efforts, although always interesting, still sound a bit tentative. Miles on the other hand, was already in his prime. "
