Coming-of-age biopic about 1970s all-girl teen band The Runaways. Kristen Stewart stars as Joan Jett, the rebellious rock and roll chick who learns to play guitar and dreams of forming a hardcore, all-girl rock band. When she meets eccentric record producer Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), he is struck by the possibilities of exploiting a 'jailbait' teenage girl band with guitars, and together Jett and Fowley comb the sleazy nightclubs of Los Angeles in search of further band members.
They eventually find their lead singer in 15-year-old blonde sexpot Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), and are soon signed by Mercury Records who send them off off on a tour of Japan. [...more...]
