Vanilla Fudge were originals. Their debut album was the first progressive rock release ever. Their quasiclassical introductions and interludes throughout predate The Nice, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and all the others. The originality is remarkable, despite the fact that they only covered well-known pop songs of the day. The Beatles "Ticket to Ride," the Zombies "She's Not There," and the Supremes "You Keep Me Hanging On," are the songs that may interest fans of heavy metal. The Fudge gave them a slowed down, dramatic treatment with the heavy organ, active bass, pounding drums, and frenzied psychedelic guitar.
