After this record his music gradually transformed into a more bluesy style.
Heavier Things features his hits "Clarity" and "Daughters". Although the last one is one of his biggest hits, Mayer has always been resistant on releasing this song as a single because at that time his music was turning into another direction. He was still skeptical even when he won a Grammy for it, which he mentioned in his speech upon receiving the award.
