Recorded July 22, 1980 at the Rising Sun Festijazz (forerunner of the acclaimed Montreal Jazz festival), Louisiana Red, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Lightnin' Hopkins played variants of down-home blues. The artists already knew each other and had recorded together at times, but each represented a different regional school. Louisiana Red came out of Mississippi Delta blues and its Chicago and Detroit modernizations, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee did East Coast blues, and Lightnin1 Hopkins personified Texas blues, updated by electricity.
