| The complete London Sessions, recorded by Memphis Slim during two1960 recording sessions, at the threshold of his renaissance in Europe, is an overdue tribute to a major ambassador of the Blues. A remarkably prolific artist who brought a vigorous air of urban sophistication to his always-stunning performances and recordings, Memphis Slim unquestionably ranks with the greatest Blues pianists of all time. His thundering attack on the ivory keys set him apart from most of his contemporaries, while his deeply burnished voice possessed a commanding authority. Alexis Korner is often justifiably referred to as the "Founding Father of British Blues," And although there still might have been a British Blues scene in the early 1960s without him, chances are that it would have been very different from the boom that spawned the Rolling Stones, nurtured the early talents of Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, and made it possible for figures such as John Mayall to reach an audience; all of the aforementioned having played with his Korner's Blues Incorporated or otherwise benefited from his mentorship.
