Scratch (Walter Huston) appears and offers seven years of prosperity in exchange for his soul. Believing it to be a joke, Jabez accepts willingly and riches soon come his way. However, when Mr.
Scratch returns to collect his debt, Jabez has to call on well-known orator Daniel Webster (Edward Arnold) to lead the fight to save his soul.
