Po imiennym debiucie z 2007 roku, "Exploding Head" to najbardziej znana płyta A Place To Bury Strangers, która zapewniła nowojorskiej, noiserockowej kapeli uznanie krytyków i wiernych fanów. Dowodzony przez Olivera Ackermanna zespół miał prosty cel - stworzyć najbardziej szalone, najbardziej popieprzone nagrania w historii. Materiał zarejestrowano w 2009 roku w studiu Death By Audio w Nowym Jorku. Dziennikarze zachwycali się niebanalnym brzmieniem, zainspirowanym shoegaze'owymi ikonami pokroju The Jesus & Mary Chain czy My Bloody Valentine. Pitchfork opisał album jako "sfrustrowaną agresję, bolesny feedback... nasycony gładką, indie-popową melodią". Płytę w ramach reedycji zremasterował Oliver Ackermann, a dodatkowym komentarzem opatrzył dziennikarz muzyczny, Tris McCall.
