| Po niezwykłym sukcesie debiutanckiego albumu "Forever Young" (1984), niemieckie trio Alphaville postanowiło otworzyć kolejny, pełen sukcesów rozdział w karierze, wydając drugi album "Afternoons In Utopia" (1986). Trzy lata później, zespół wrócił z trzecim studyjnym wydawnictwem, "The Breathtaking Blue" (1989). Na płycie pojawiły się nowe muzyczne elementy, za co odpowiedzialny był m.in. pionier elektroniki, Klaus Schulze, który dołączył do grona producentów. Zespół wyszedł też naprzeciw nowym technologiom, wydając "The Breathtaking Blue" jako jeden z pierwszych, graficznych kompaktów. Poza znakomicie wyprodukowanymi singlami, jak "Romeos", płycie towarzyszył niesamowity, innowacyjny film "Somnglines", w ramach którego 9 reżyserów nakręciło krótkometrażówki zainspirowane utworami z albumu.
