Chłopcy z Black Rebel Motorcycle Club mieli wielkie ambicje od samego początku, kiedy to zeszli się w 1998 roku w San Francisco. Wszyscy trzej pochodzą z innych zakątków globu. Peter Hayes (gitara/ wokal) dorastał na małej farmie w Minnesocie, Nick Jago (perkusja) spędził dzieciństwo w Devon w Wielkiej Brytanii. Robert Turner (gitara basowa/ wokal) dorastał gdzieś w górach Santa Cruz, gdzie mieszkał z ojcem, Michaelem Beenem - byłym frontmanem nowofalowej grupy z lat osiemdziesiątych, The Call, obecnie szanowanym inżynierem dźwięku w Black Rebel.
