Once an unknown entity outside of music circles in Memphis, Tennessee, the song "Green Onions" quickly changed all that for Booker T. & The MG's. They are now considered by many to have defined (southern) Soul music.
Once an unknown entity outside of music circles in Memphis, Tennessee, the song "Green Onions" quickly changed all that for Booker T. & The MG's. By the time the album by the same name saw the light of day, everyone was asking at their favourite record store for Green Onions. Being an instrumental soul band, they were the house band of Stax Records in the sixties, playing on hundreds and hundreds of recordings by the likes of Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett and Bill Withers.
