| With 2007's "Eater Of Birds" Colorado duo COBALT set new standards for extreme underground blackened metal in the U.S. by unleashing a unique opus of diseased avant-blackened violent ritualistic war metal that pretty much set the underground scene aflame with it's monolithic epic and atmospheric nature; there was no album quite like it. And with the glimpse given earlier this year with the limited "Landfill Breastmilk Beast" EP, Cobalt's new album, "Gin", sees the duo of Cobalt (Phil McSorley, currently a sergeant in the U.S. military deployed in Iraq damning souls to hell, and Erik Wunder) tread down a darker and rougher edged path, and ultimately carving out something even more unique, with more depth and substance.
