Helmet was formed in New York City in 1989 by founding members Page Hamilton, Henry Bogdan, Peter Mengede and John Stanier. They have had a large impact on many heavy metal, hard rock, nu metal, post-hardcore and metalcore acts, with bands such as Tool, Pantera, Mastodon, Converge, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Queens of the Stone Age, Sepultura, At the Drive-In, System of a Down, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Silverchair, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Staind and many others crediting Helmet as an influence. the group released their first full-length album Strap It On, in 1991.
