American thriller directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Anthony Hopkins. Ventriloquist Corky (Hopkins) is on the verge of success when he pulls out of a deal to secure his own TV show. He fears for his sanity as his foul-mouthed dummy, Fats, takes increasing control over his life.
Returning to his childhood home in Appalachia Corky reunites with his high-school crush Peggy (Ann-Margret). However, when his agent, Ben Greene (Burgess Meredith), shows up to check on his well-being Corky struggles to convince him that he is better and no longer so dependent on Fats.
