When the third album of the German death metal pioneers Morgoth was released in 1996, several pyres were figuratively lit under the band. On "Feel Sorry For The Fanatic", Morgoth dared to break out of the death metal genre - and this at a time when the death metal wave of the nineties had not even reached its peak. Several genre greats of that time were to follow a similar path years later - and so one has to ask oneself 27 years later: Were Morgoth simply ahead of their time? Looking back, one thing has to be said: "Feel Sorry For The Fanatic" is an almost timeless album, which would find its fans and friends even in 2023.
