By fate, Karel Kryl was given only a very brief concert contact with Czech and Slovak audiences, and this album was given only its first print run and banned after Kryl's emigration in the autumn of 1969. The singer's subsequent foreign exposure had an important unofficial resonance in the form of smuggled EPs and cassettes plus radio broadcasts, but the songs from "Bratricek" became the strongest part of our lives. Each of the titles evokes a story, a memory, singing at home, around the campfire, on the water, anywhere there wasn't a cop nearby.
