It might sound like Babe Ruth is a legendary baseball player from Baltimore, but our 'Babe Ruth' is a rock group from Hatfield, England and once hailed as rising stars of Seventies rock. The group was formed by guitarist Alan Shacklock, who wrote most of the material on this debut album released by Harvest in 1972. Attractive Janita 'Jenny' Haan handled the vocals and the rest of the band included Dave Punshon (keyboards), Dave Hewitt (bass) add Dick Powell (drums). The album did well in North America where it went 'gold' and, for a while, the group seemed destined for major career, although they finally split in 1976. Among the eight tracks is a version of 'The Mexican' a song also covered by Jellybean Benitez in 1984 with vocals by Jenny Haan. With a striking sleeve design by Roger and Martyn Dean, this is an attractive and collectable package, fully restored and a powerful testament to a great outfit. In recent times the group has reformed and recorded a new album, all part of the Babe Ruth revival.
