Muzyka pochodzącego ze Szkocji zespołu The Jesus And Mary Chain to charakterystyczne, nietypowe połączenie hałaśliwych aranżacji gitarowych z popową linią melodyczną. Płyta "Automatic" była czwartym wydawnictwem zespołu (1989r.). Na krążku znalazł się największy jak dotąd singiel grupy: "Head On" (potem przerobiony przez zespół Pixies). Co ciekawe, nad tą płytą pracowały tylko dwie osoby - bracia William i Jim Reid. Żywą perkusję zastąpił automat, a bas - dźwięki syntezatora.
