Choć wydany pod szyldem Pixies, "Trompe Le Monde" to praktycznie pierwszy solowy album Black Francisa. Kim Deal, zajęta bez reszty The Breeders i trapiona uzależnieniem od alkoholu, pojawia się tu ledwie w chorkach, a i to sporadycznie. Mimo to, zespoł brzmi wyśmienicie - spojnie i bojowo - jakby przeczuwając, iż jest to jego ostatnia już szarża. Tak jak na "Bossanovie" sporo tu fantazji sci-fi (np. "Planet Of Sound"), ktore od zawsze były obsesją Francisa, a z drugiej strony - mnostwo ostrego rockowego grania, ktorego ukoronowaniem jest zwalająca z nog wersja "Head On" The Jesus And Mary Chain.
