Although they had played together in various groups since their first meeting in 1939 (including Earl Hines' orchestra, which unfortunately was never recorded due to a recording ban), Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker's association really took off in 1945. It was then that they made their first studio combo recordings, introducing adventurous new tunes like "Salt Peanuts" or "Groovin' High", which at first weren't fully understood by the general public or by many of their fellow musicians.
