HERALDING THE HITS 1
The SHOUT! catalogue is dedicated to re-presenting classic real soul, and this mini series Rem-ember-ing Roots Of Soul looks at the bedrock of that genre; at the component parts.
For volume one the focus is on the US Herald and Ember labels which acts as a microcosm of the whole thesis. Between 1953 and 1963 these labels scored a number of R&B hits, crossover pop hits and provided the launch pad for artists to take off into Soul during the 60's. Hits include: Faye Adams I'll Be True', The Mello Kings' Chapel On The Hill', The Silhouettes' Get A Job', Maurice Williams & Zodiacs' Stay', Billy Myles' The Joker', The Five Satins' To The Aisle and many more.
